Is the Silicon Valley program only offered in Santa Clara County? I'm in San Mateo County (San Bruno) and I'd love to see if we can get some of the businesses along San Mateo Avenue on board with this? Lots of small ethnic and 'mom and pop' restaurants and grocers.
Absolutely! One business in San Mateo that has yet to open took a sticker a couple of weeks ago. If you have any leads, please let me know. I too would love to get some businesses along San Mateo Avenue on board!
There are probably 40 small mom + pop shops and ethnic restaurants and grocers located along San Mateo Avenue in San Bruno. Many get lots of love on SF Eater or Yelp. You could literally park at one end and walk the 5 blocks to the other end. I think it would be impactful to because city of San Bruno doesn't have staff or resources to put toward sustainability efforts, but perhaps you could reach out to the Chamber of Commerce
Thank you very much! That sounds like a prime spot for BYO containers! I'm actually speaking at a San Mateo Chamber of Commerce meeting in May and plan to bring this program up. I'd be so happy if anyone in the audience owns one of these mom and pops.
San Bruno is a blue collar town with limited resources (e.g. money) + very few employees. The city won't lead the way on any sustainability matters. You kinda need to know folks to get anything done. If you want an introduction, I'd be glad to help connect you with the city council members who are interested in sustainability, the Chamber of Commerce, and others. They would be the place to start. I can connect you with folks that can help you get in front of the right folks. Just give me your e-mail address and I'll make it happen.
