Here on Vancouver Island, on the West Coast of Canada, our local facility takes clean filmy plastic such as a bread bag or food wrap, lots of other kinds of plastics such as cracker trays or shampoo bottles, certain types of styrofoam such as meat trays, glass, aseptic containers, old electronics, metal, dead appliances, all the beverage containers, so much stuff!!
Thanks for answering the questions. If I could ask one more and if not I understand. I can't find anywhere recycle glass. Any suggestions? I do reuse as much as I can but I can only keep so much here. Again, thanks so much for all your information. I found it most helpful.
That's a tough one if your city doesn't recycle glass. Is there a bulk store in your area? It might take your jars. A bulk store near me accepts glass jars. If your area has a Buy Nothing group, someone on there might want glass bottles and jars.
I do have a refill store about 6 miles away and I'll check with them. I tried a buy nothing group but it had a strange way of getting or giving anything, almost like bidding on it but I'll check to see if there are any other ones nearby. Thanks!
No need to wash but do use a spatula to get everything out and use it all rather than trash it (particularly peanut butter and mayo). A quick rinse is sometimes helpful. Usually no need to take labels off as there are processes to deal with those when recycling containers but check with the recycler you use.
Thank you for this! I feel like I knew a lot of this information, but it’s great to have it in a form easy to share, coming from someone who works in that industry.
Great information there. Thanks for sharing. I always rinse out tins and jars before placing them in the recycling bin.
Thanks for reading!

My pleasure. Good luck!
Glass recycling depends on where you live -- you need to check with the cities and businesses near you and find out who takes what.
Unfortunately my area doesn't recycle glass. Thanks for responding
Thank you for this conversation.
It’s really interesting to know how it works in a recycling facility.
And it’s helpful too. I always wondered if I should wash my cans and jars and if I had to take the labels off the boxes. Now I know.
